BookLog privacy notice
Effective 8 September 2026. This notice applies to BookLog releases that link to it. It distinguishes BookLog version 4.0.2 from older releases where their information-handling practices differ.
Which release this describes
BookLog version 4.0.2 keeps your book entries, notes, search history, and settings primarily on your device. It offers optional online book search, cover loading, and legacy import as described below. Older versions 2.0 and 4.0.1 included Firebase account and cloud-library features and Firebase Analytics; version 4.0.1 also included Crashlytics and Performance. The information-handling sections below identify those older-version practices separately where they differ.
Information stored in the app
In BookLog version 4.0.2, the app stores book entries, notes, search history, and settings locally on your device so that you can use the app. You can remove individual book records in the app, or remove local app data through Android settings or by uninstalling the app.
Online book search and covers in BookLog version 4.0.2
When you use online search in BookLog version 4.0.2, the app sends the search terms you enter to Open Library at
openlibrary.org to return book results. When the app loads a book cover, it requests the image from Open Library Covers at
covers.openlibrary.org; the app uses Picasso to load cover images. Open Library and its Covers service process those requests
under their own terms and privacy practices, which may include service and access logs.
Optional legacy import in BookLog version 4.0.2
In version 4.0.2, legacy import is optional and starts only when you choose it. The import uses Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore to authenticate and read legacy cloud book and note records before copying them into BookLog on your device. Depending on the sign-in provider you choose, Firebase and the provider may process your account identifier, profile information, or email address for authentication. Firebase may also process the legacy book and note records needed for the read/import flow. The import is one-way: it does not write to or delete the legacy cloud records, and BookLog signs out when the import flow ends. Google and any chosen sign-in provider process information under their own terms and privacy practices.
Older releases: accounts, cloud library, and telemetry
Unlike BookLog version 4.0.2, older versions 2.0 and 4.0.1 included Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Firebase Analytics. These services may process account identifiers, profile information, email address, book records, notes, app-interaction information, device and other technical information to provide account, cloud-library, and analytics features. Version 4.0.1 offered email/password and Google sign-in and wrote user/profile, book, and note records to its cloud library.
Version 4.0.1 also included Crashlytics and Firebase Performance. These services may process crash and diagnostic information to provide crash reporting and performance monitoring. Firebase Analytics and Performance may also derive approximate location, such as country-level location, from an IP address for analytics and performance monitoring.
Google Books requests in BookLog version 2.0
When you used book search in BookLog version 2.0, the app sent search terms and ISBN queries to Google Books at
www.googleapis.com to return book results. Google processes those requests under its own terms and privacy practices, which may
include service and access logs.
Goodreads requests in BookLog version 4.0.1
When you used book search in BookLog version 4.0.1, the app sent search terms and requests for book and author information to Goodreads at
www.goodreads.com. Goodreads processes those requests under its own terms and privacy practices, which may include service and
access logs.
Advertising and similar services
BookLog version 4.0.2 does not include app-bundled advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs. This does not change the separate processing that Open Library, Goodreads, Google, Firebase, a chosen sign-in provider, or your network provider may perform to operate their services.
Account and data deletion
For the distinction between removing local data and requesting deletion of legacy cloud account/data, including verification and retention information, see BookLog account and data deletion.
Support correspondence
Emailing us is voluntary and happens outside the app. If you contact us, we receive the email address, message, and any attachments you choose to send. We use them to respond and, when necessary, keep a limited record of the request. Our customer support email is handled through our infrastructure providers. We retain correspondence only as long as reasonably needed for support, security, or legal obligations.
Website and your rights
This static privacy and support site does not intentionally set cookies and contains no analytics or tracking pixels. Hosting and network providers may process standard access information, such as the requested URL, timestamp, IP address, user agent, and security events, to deliver and secure the site. For personal data in support correspondence or website records, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, data portability, or object to processing where those rights apply. You may also complain to Sweden’s data protection authority, IMY.

If a future BookLog release changes how information is handled, this notice will be updated before that release links to the revised notice.
